VIEW ITINERARYDAY 1: Monday 2 September, 2024
Stresa, Lake Maggiore
Workshop members will be transferred at 2.00pm
from Milan Malpensa airport to your comfortable
four star hotel in Stresa, over looking Lake
Maggiore. Lake Maggiore is the most famous of
the Italian Lakes, in part for its legendary beauty,
at times both majestic and wild, and also for the
Borromean Islands. It is fed by the Ticino River,
which rises in Switzerland, and its waters change
from a jade green in the north to a deep blue in
the south. The mountains of the Alps and Pre Alps
shelter the lake. There will be time to freshen up
before the group meets for welcome drinks and
an included welcome dinner at the hotel.
DAY 2: Tuesday 3 September, 2024
Stresa, Lake Maggiore
Today will be a full day of painting at Lake
Maggiore. Greg will take the group to a good
location for a demonstration followed by
individual attention for workshop members.
DAY 3: Wednesday 4 September, 2024
Stresa, Lake Maggiore
After breakfast we take a boat to Isola Bella, the
most spectacular of the Borromean Islands. On
the island we will see the Palace, which is built in the Lombard Baroque style and its staterooms –
Napoleon’s room, the Hall of Mirrors, music room
and more. The gardens are undoubtedly one
of the most dramatic examples of 17th-century
gardens in Italy, filled with beautiful roses and
other perfumed plants set out on 10 terraces
ornamented with statues and fountains and will
provide wonderful subjects to paint.
DAY 4: Thursday 5 September, 2024
Stresa, Lake Maggiore
Our last day of painting will be a full day of
painting at Lake Maggiore. Greg will take the
group to a good location for a demonstration
followed by individual attention for workshop
members.
DAY 5: Friday 6 September, 2024
Lake Como
This morning we will transfer from Lake
Maggiore to Lake Como. Como is a city of history,
art, culture and tradition and welcomes those in
search of unusual and enchanting landscapes.
Como was prosperous under the Romans and
reached its zenith in the 11th century. Now it is
a modern town with a beautiful setting on the
shores of Lake Como. Tonight we will have an
included dinner.
DAY 6: Saturday 7 September, 2024
Lake Como
After breakfast Greg will begin the painting
program in Como with a demonstration in a good
location near the hotel. Then it will be your turn
to paint as Greg moves among the group, helping
each person with their work.
DAY 7: Sunday 8 September, 2024
Lake Como
Today we travel to the lovely town of Bellagio
for a day of painting. Occupying a magnificent
site on the promontory dividing Lake Lecco
from Lake Como, it is known for its pretty
streets, the friendliness of its people and its
villas and gardens.
DAY 8: Monday 9 September, 2024
Lake Como
Today we will depart in our private coach to
Menaggio, which is situated on the western shore
of Lake Como, for a day of painting. The splendid
lakeside promenade with its lovely flowerbeds
and unique view of the central lake will offer many
subjects to paint. Greg will paint a demonstration
and then spend time moving amongst the group
members offering individual assistance. There
will be time to catch the ferry to Varenna, a
spectacular town built upon a rock at the foot of a
mountain which rises almost vertically above it.
DAY 9: Tuesday 10 September, 2024
Lake Garda
Today workshop members will be transferred to
Lake Garda. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy.
Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of
the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are
divided between the provinces of Verona, Brescia,
and Trentino. We will stay in beautiful Lazise at the
southern part of the lake. Tonight we will have an
included dinner.
DAY 10: Wednesday 11 September, 2024
Lake Garda
Today we will take the ferry to Malcesine, it is
a picturesque town with cobbled lanes and a
castle, nestled between the blue lake waters
and the massive mountain ridge behind, Monte
Baldo. Greg will find some wonderful subjects for
you to paint.
DAY 11: Thursday 12 September, 2024
Lake Garda
Today we will take the ferry to Limone. Nestling
alongside lemon groves, beneath the cliffs of
the north-western shore of Lake Garda, Limone
is a picture-perfect resort – an artist’s paradise.
Houses covered in blossoming geraniums and
bougainvillaea line the old, cobbled streets that
lead up from the lakeside. Greg will commence
his painting session with a demonstration and
spend time moving amongst the group members
offering assistance.
DAY 12: Friday 13 September, 2024
Lake Garda
Today we will paint in the beautiful town of
Sirmione, located on the southern bank of Lake
Garda. It’s known for its thermal baths and Rocca
Scaligera, a medieval castle overlooking the lake. Set at the tip of a peninsula, the Archaeological
Site of Grotte di Catullo encompasses a Roman
villa, a museum and olive trees. Greg will find a
wonderful location to paint a demonstration and
assist workshop members individually. There will
be a final critique session this afternoon followed
by an included farewell dinner.
DAY 13: Saturday 14 September, 2024
Lake Garda
Workshop members will be transferred to Venice
Marco Polo airport by private coach. The transfer
will arrive in time to meet flights departing after
2.00pm.
