Amanda Hyatt has been a professional watercolour artist for 40 years. She has had 35 solo exhibitions, with international exhibitions in New York and China where she was described as a ‘Master of Watercolour’ and an ‘International Master of ‘En Plein Air Painting’. For the past 15 years Amanda has taken Travelrite International painting workshop holidays to places such as Antarctica, Europe (France, Italy and Mediterranean Cruises) and the UK. She has won most major Australian Watercolour awards and is a long-term member of both the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society and the Australian Watercolour Institute. Amanda has five teaching DVDs and her book Watercolour Tonal Impressionism is a best seller. Amanda is passionate about the art of watercolour and pushes the boundaries herself in discovering how to make a ‘piece of art’ rather than ‘just a painting’.
Sunday 3 September 2023
Scarborough
Tour members will be met at Leeds airport at
12.00pm midday. We will travel by private coach to
Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast. Scarborough
has a history stretching back centuries. The dramatic
castle ruins on the headland date from the medieval
period. In more recent times the discovery of the
famous natural spa waters led to Scarborough
becoming a spa resort retreat. This evening the group
will meet for welcome drinks and an included dinner.
DAY 2: Monday 4 September 2023
Scarborough
This morning Amanda will commence the painting
session with a demonstration in Scarborough and
then assisting tour members individually with
their own paintings. The town of Scarborough is
brimming with classic Victorian seaside architecture
from the iconic Spa entertainment centre and Grand
Hotel to a cliff lift and beautiful museum buildings
like the Rotunda.
DAY 3: Tuesday 5 September 2023
Scarborough
Today’s painting location is Whitby an ancient and
beautiful seaport, surrounded by the magnificent
countryside of the North York Moors National Park.
Amanda will find some great subjects for today’s
painting sessions.
DAY 4: Wednesday 6 September 2023
Scarborough
Today we travel to Robin Hoods Bay for a full day
of painting. Robin Hoods Bay is a picturesque old
fishing village on the Heritage Coast of the North
York Moors. Wandering through its narrow, twisting
cobbled streets and alleyways, you can easily
imagine the sailors and fishermen, smugglers and
press gangs that walked these streets hundreds of
years ago.
DAY 5: Thursday 7 September 2023
Scarborough
This morning we travel to Staithes for a full day
of painting. The North Yorkshire seaside town of
Staithes embodies many of the reasons why seaside
towns hold such appeal. Once one of the busiest
fishing ports on the North East coast, Staithes
boasts a long proud history as the one-time home
of famous Royal Navy captain and explorer, Captain
James Cook.
DAY 6: Friday 8 September 2023
York
This morning we board our coach and travel to York.
On arrival we will enjoy a walking tour around this
historic city. Originally a fortress built by the Romans
in AD71, later a Viking town, no other city in northern
England says ‘medieval’ quite like York. A magnificent
circuit of 13th-century walls encloses a medieval
spider’s web of narrow streets. At its heart lies the
immense, awe inspiring York Minster, one of the
most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in the world. In the
afternoon there will be free time. This evening there
will be an included dinner.
DAY 7: Saturday 9 September 2023
York
Today’s painting session will be in York in The
Shambles. The Shambles is like stepping back into
the middle ages, the overhanging timber-framed
houses and traditional shopfronts makes it one of
the UK’s most historic and picturesque streets.
DAY 8: Sunday 10 September 2023
York
This morning we visit Castle Howard, near York, it is
a magnificent historic house in the north of England
with ornate interiors and beautifully landscaped
gardens and the location of Evelyn Waugh’s famous
novel “Brideshead Revisited’ Following our visit there
will be a painting session.
DAY 9: Monday 11 September 2023
