A dedicated artist traveller and preferring to paint en plein air John reflects in his work a pursuit of artistic integrity from his drawing skills, due to his early academic training in industrial design, to his meticulous compositional ability and his unique approach in capturing light, air and space. “It is the challenge of capturing the changing moods that light creates across the day and its subsequent effects on the surroundings such as buildings the countryside and water” John says “Painting on location ensures that the essence of the subject remains the first priority, especially the subtleties, nuances and tempo of that particular region. John has held 27 solo exhibitions, 3 in Venice, Italy at a prestigious Gallery in San Marco, and when in Venice he has been invited to lecture at the University of Architecture on drawing and perspective. John’s paintings are featured in many collections in Europe, the USA and Japan.

“It was so well organized. We got to see all the best places, but without feeling we were being herded around like cattle, like you do on some tours. There was plenty of time to paint, and the instructor told me more about how to improve my painting style in weeks than I have learned all year back home. I really did get individual attention.”
“I particularly enjoyed meeting people with similar interests and having a working reason for being in a location.”
