John Lovett had his first one-man exhibition in 1973 at the age of 19 and has been painting and teaching ever since. His unique interpretation of his subject has a vitality that is enhanced by his use of light, vibrant color and strong sense of design. John’s passion for his work and his open easy approach to teaching make his books, DVD’s and workshops thoroughly enjoyable, extremely informative and always very popular.
DAY 1 Friday 12 May 2023
Glen Helen
Workshop members will be met at The Hilton
Alice springs at 12.00pm or Alice Springs airport
at 12.30pm and transferred to Glen Helen. The
landscape around Glen Helen is spectacular – a
towering sandstone wall is the first thing you see
as you arrive. The area includes views of Mount
Sonder, one of the highest points in Central
Australia, which changes colours with the light.
Our accommodation will be at the motel in Glen
Helen in rustic air-conditioned accommodation
to give you the true outback experience. We will
enjoy an included dinner each evening of our stay
in Glen Helen.
DAY 2 Saturday 13 May 2023
Glen Helen
A full day of painting in and around Glen Helen
Gorge. At Glen Helen Gorge, the ranges part to
make way for the Finke River. The permanent
Finke River waterhole is an important refuge in
the hot summer months, for all nine species of fish
recorded for the Finke, and migrating waterbirds.
From here, the Finke River continues and makes its
way to the Simpson Desert. Tonight we will enjoy
an included dinner.
DAY 3 Sunday 14 May 2023
Glen Helen
Today we travel to Ormiston Gorge for a full day
of painting. The rugged scenery of the Gorge
will provide some wonderful subjects to paint.
The water and the shelter of the rocks attract an
interesting variety of native fauna and flora. John
will paint a demonstration and assist workshop
members individually. Tonight we will enjoy an
included dinner.
DAY 4 Monday 15 May 2023
Glen Helen
Today we travel to Ellery Creek Big Hole for a full
day of painting. This spectacular waterhole is fed
by Ellery Creek and surrounded by high red cliffs
and sandy banks. Thousands of years of massive
floods have carved out this waterhole. Tonight we
will enjoy an included dinner.

DAY 6 Wednesday 17 May 2023
Ross River
This morning we say farewell to Glen Helen and
travel onto Ross River. On the way we will visit the
ochre pits. The Ochre Pits is a registered sacred site and offers you the unique opportunity to
view an ochre deposit that is still used by the
local Arrarnta people. Ochre has been used all
over the world for decoration and painting since
pre-historic times. We then travel on to Ross River
situated 83km east of Alice Springs. Based around
the original 1890’s Loves Creek Homestead, this
unique resort offers freestanding cabins with an
ensuite bathroom for your outback experience. It
was first established as an outstation of Undoolya
Station and it is thought that the supervisor at the
nearby Arltunga Gold town built the homestead
in 1898. Each day there will be an included picnic
lunch and dinner at Ross River Homestead.
DAY 7 Thursday 18 May 2023
Ross River
Today we travel to Trephina Gorge for a day of
painting, in the East MacDonnell Ranges, noted
for its sheer quartzite cliffs and River Red Gum
lined watercourses. Two gorges dissect the range:
Trephina, with its wide views and sandy creek bed,
and John Hayes Rockhole with steep, narrow rock
walls. Water holes in this area attract much wildlife,
including a diverse range of birds. Tonight we will
enjoy an included dinner.
DAY 8 Friday 19 May 2023
Ross River
Today we travel to Arltunga a superbly preserved
mining ghost town. It is located on the 5000 hectare Arltunga Historical Reserve. John will
find some great subjects for a full day of painting.

DAY 9 Saturday 20 May 2023
Ross River
The MacDonnell Ranges stretch out for hundreds
of kilometres on both sides of Alice Springs,
like a long, craggy spine, twisting through the
countryside. The traditional owners, the Arrernte
people, believed giant caterpillars called the
Yeperenye formed the Ranges. The area is known
for its spectacular natural features, ancient
petroglyphs and rugged countryside. John will
find some wonderful subjects for today’s painting
session. Tonight we will enjoy an included dinner.
DAY 10 Sunday 21 May 2023
Alice Springs
Today we travel back to Alice Springs the capital
of the Outback. It nestles in a valley in the
MacDonnell Ranges on the banks of the mostly
dry Todd River. We will travel to the Telegraph
station for an afternoon painting session. The Alice
Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve marks
the original site of the first European settlement in
Alice Springs. Established in 1871 to relay messages
between Darwin and Adelaide, and linking with
an underwater cable network to London, England.
The cable established the first real communication
between Australia and England. We will then check
into our hotel.
DAY 11 Monday 22 May 2023
Alice Springs
This morning we travel to Simpsons Gap for
another painting session. In the afternoon, we
travel to Standley Chasm for a light lunch. We
then take a walk to where you can see the cuts
through the tough quartzite that have formed a
picturesque natural alleyway. Surging floodwaters
over thousands of years are responsible for this
magnificent site. There will be time to photograph
and sketch.
DAY 12 Tuesday 23 May 2023
Alice Springs
Today will be another informative day of painting
in and around Alice Springs with John Lovett. In
the afternoon, there will be a final critique session.
This evening we will have an included farewell
dinner at our hotel.
DAY 13 Wednesday 24 May 2023
Departure
Tour members will be transferred to Alice Springs
airport to meet flights departing after midday.

1. Payment Conditions:
A reservation deposit of $500 per person is required at the
time of booking. Final payment is due 90 days prior to the
date of departure.
2. Alteration to Workshop Vacation Price:
The Painting Workshop Vacation price is subject to change
in the event of unforeseen circumstances and changes in
the cost of travel and accommodation services. Should any
increase in the Workshop Vacation price be unacceptable
to the registered member, a full refund of monies paid will
be made.
3. Cancellation and Amendments:
* Cancellation conditions don’t apply for clients with future cruise/tour credits. Cruise/tour credits are non-refundable.
Cancellations received in writing 91 or more days from the
date of departure will result in a cancellation fee of $500
per person. Cancellations received 90 or fewer days before
departure will result in a loss of all monies paid. There are no
refunds for services not utilized while on a Workshop Vacation.
Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover Workshop
members for the consequences of unforeseen events during
the Workshop Vacation and for cancellation fees that could
result from illness, accident, death or other contingencies.
Once a booking has been confirmed, one amendment to
travel arrangements will be made free-of charge. Subsequent
changes to travel arrangements will incur an amendment fee
of $25 per change in addition to supplier charges.
4. Minimum Workshop Vacation Numbers:
Each Painting Workshop Vacation has been priced on the
basis of a minimum number of members travelling. In the
event that fewer than the minimum number of members have confirmed their booking 90 days from the date of
commencement, Travelrite International reserves the right to
cancel the Workshop Vacation, giving a full refund of monies
paid, or to offer arrangements to proceed with the Workshop
Vacation at a modified price.
5. General:
In the unlikely event that the Workshop tutor is unable to
perform his or her duties due to unforeseen contingencies,
Travelrite International reserves the right to substitute
another artist as tutor or to continue with the Workshop
Vacation as planned or to provide a cash refund to Workshop
members equivalent to the value of the Workshop leadership.
International Artist Painting Workshops can involve a
considerable amount of walking and stair-climbing in the
regions visited and it is important that all members have a
level of physical fitness that allows them to take part in these
activities without the need of assistance from others.
6. Tax Considerations:
If you regularly sell your own paintings, you may fall into
the semi-professional or professional category for taxation
purposes and the tour cost may be tax-deductible. We
recommend that you seek the advice of a qualified tax
adviser.
7. Responsibilities:
Travelrite International Pty Ltd., their agents, officers, affiliates,
and/or suppliers of services pursuant to or in connection with
these Workshop Vacations shall act only as agents in making
arrangements for hotels, transportation, restaurants, or any
other service and do not assume any liability whatsoever for
any injury, damage, death, loss, accident or delay to person
or property due to an act of negligence or of default of any
hotel, carrier, restaurant, company or person rendering any
services included in the Workshops, or by act of God. Further,
no responsibilities are accepted for any damage or delay due
to sickness, pilferage, labor disputes, machinery breakdown,
quarantine, government restraints, weather, terrorism,
or other causes beyond their control. No responsibility is
accepted for any additional expenses, omissions, delays,
rerouting or acts of any government or authority. Baggage
remains at owner’s risk throughout the Workshop Vacation.
The passage contract in use by the carriers concerned, when
issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the carriers
and the purchasers of these Painting Workshop Vacations
and/or the passengers. The right is reserved to withdraw any
Painting Workshop Vacation and/or to make such changes in
the Painting Workshop Vacation as may be found desirable
for the convenience of the parties and the proper carryingout
of the Painting Workshop Vacation. Registration for any
Painting Workshop Vacation constitutes a contract which
shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of
Victoria, Australia and any legal action must be taken in the
State of Victoria.
