DAY 1 Sunday 10 May 2026 Margaret River
Our workshop adventure begins with a warm welcome as
members depart from Perth airport at 12:00 pm, taking us to our
workshop hotel in Margaret River. In the afternoon we gather for
a welcome drinks party and dinner – a perfect way to celebrate
the beginning of our artistic journey.
DAY 2 Monday 11 May 2026 Margaret River
Our full day of painting unfolds against the backdrop of
Margaret River, where fine wine, exquisite cuisine, and stunning
landscapes converge. Beyond its renowned gastronomic
delights, Margaret River boasts a vibrant arts scene, with
galleries dotting every corner – a wellspring of inspiration for
our artistic endeavours.
DAY 3 Tuesday 12 May 2026 Margaret River
Today our excursion from Margaret River takes us to the famous
Busselton Jetty, the longest in Australia. This wood pier stretches
nearly 2km to the Underwater Observatory, where life in a
coral reef is on view. David will find a great location for today’s
painting session.
DAY 4 Wednesday 13 May 2026 Margaret River
Today we enjoy painting at one of the beautiful vineyards in the
Margaret River region. We will also enjoy an included lunch and
a wine tasting.
DAY 5 Thursday 14 May 2026 Margaret River
This morning, we travel to Augusta and Cape Leeuwin, where
the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. The cape, the most
south-westerly point in Australia, has a rugged coastline and a
lighthouse built in 1895. David will find a great painting location
close to the lighthouse and show you how to paint it. We will
drive through the majestic Boranup Karri Forest and admire
the pale, slender trees towering up to 60 meters. Today we also
explore the underground wonderland of Mammoth Cave; it is
one of just a few caves in the southwest, which contains fossils.
Our visit to Mammoth Cave finishes with a winding walk through
the beautiful Karri forest, with whistling birds and stunning
flora displays. These incredible wonders of nature are right at
our doorstep.
DAY 6 Friday 15 May 2026 Fremantle
Today we travel to Fremantle, a destination steeped in
maritime history and adorned with Victorian architecture.
With remnants dating back to its days as a British penal colony,
Fremantle offers a captivating blend of historical significance
and architectural charm. As we explore the charming port, there
will be free time in the afternoon to wander through streets
lined with Victorian and Edwardian buildings.
DAY 7 Saturday 16 May 2026 Fremantle
David will start the day with a painting session close to the
Fremantle hotel. He will begin with a demonstration, followed
by individual assistance to workshop members. There will be an
included dinner this evening.
DAY 8 Sunday 17 May 2026 Fremantle
Today we board the ferry to Rottnest Island. The island is
renowned for its simply beautiful beaches and bays, laid-back
atmosphere (cars are not allowed on the island), its native
wildlife (including the quokka – a small native marsupial). There
will be a painting session on Rottnest Island.
DAY 9 Monday 18 May 2026 The Pinnacles
This morning, we travel north along the coast, stopping in Yanchep National Park. We then continue our journey to Cervantes, a small coastal fishing town in Western Australia, north of Perth. The town is a gateway to Nambung National Park, home to the Pinnacles, a desert area spotted with many ancient rock pillars amid shifting sand dunes. In the evening, we have an included dinner.
DAY 10 Tuesday 19 May 2026 The Pinnacles
Today we travel to Nambung National Park to see the Pinnacles Desert that contains thousands of limestone pillars. The pillars are the weathered and eroded fragments of limestone beds composed of deposited marine organisms such as coral and molluscs. Some of the tallest pinnacles reach heights of up to 3.5m above the yellow sand base. We will enjoy a full day of painting in Nambung National Park. This evening, we have an included dinner.
DAY 11 Wednesday 20 May 2026 The Pinnacles
Nambung National Park is also known for its beautiful beaches at Kangaroo Point and Hangover Bay. David will find some great subjects for today’s painting session. This afternoon there will be a final critique session and an included dinner.

“It was so well organized. We got to see all the best places, but without feeling we were being herded around like cattle, like you do on some tours. There was plenty of time to paint, and the instructor told me more about how to improve my painting style in weeks than I have learned all year back home. I really did get individual attention.”
“I particularly enjoyed meeting people with similar interests and having a working reason for being in a location.”
