Amanda Hyatt has been a professional watercolour artist for 40 years. She has had 35 solo exhibitions, with international exhibitions in New York and China where she was described as a ‘Master of Watercolour’ and an ‘International Master of ‘En Plein Air Painting’. For the past 15 years Amanda has taken Travelrite International painting workshop holidays to places such as Antarctica, Europe (France, Italy and Mediterranean Cruises) and the UK. She has won most major Australian Watercolour awards and is a long-term member of both the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society and the Australian Watercolour Institute. Amanda has five teaching DVDs and her book Watercolour Tonal Impressionism is a best seller. Amanda is passionate about the art of watercolour and pushes the boundaries herself in discovering how to make a ‘piece of art’ rather than ‘just a painting’.
DAY 1: Thursday 23 March 2023
The workshop departs from either Launceston city at 10.30am or Launceston airport at 11.00am.Today we travel to the beautiful town of Bicheno. Bicheno is a picturesque town situated on the east coast of Tasmania, it began life as a sealing and whaling town and then transitioned to a coal mining port (shipping coal mined inland at Fingal), but today cray fishing is the largest industry. Tonight the group will meet for welcome drinks and an included dinner.
DAY 2: Friday 24 March 2023
This morning we will travel to the seaside holiday village of Coles Bay on the edge of the worldrenowned Freycinet National Park, it sits beneath stunning, sheer pink granite mountains overlooking the calm, clear water of Oyster Bay. The uncrowded beaches and crystal-clear waters offer the ideal location for painting. This evening there will be an included dinner.
DAY 3: Saturday 25 March 2023
This morning Amanda will commence her painting session with a demonstration and then assist workshop members individually with their work in the beautiful town of Bicheno. This evening there will be an included dinner.
DAY 4: Sunday 26 March 2023
Today we travel to Scamander and the surrounding areas. Scamander is a small town at the mouth of the Scamander River. Amanda will find a great subject for the days painting session. This evening there will be an included dinner
DAY 5: Monday 27 March 2023
Today we say farewell to Bicheno and travel to Triabunna, where we will board the ferry to Maria Island. Maria Island is a natural wildlife sanctuary and off-shore retreat with historic ruins, sweeping bays, dramatic cliffs. We will spend the day painting on Maria Island and then continue on to Hobart.
DAY 6: Tuesday 28 March 2023
Today we will enjoy a full day of painting in beautiful Hobart with Amanda Hyatt. The group will paint the 19th century waterfront warehouses for which the city is famous. The warehouses were once busy with whalers, soldiers, petty bureaucrats and opportunist businessmen, now they house cafes, restaurants and studios and bustle with shoppers and visitors. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a valuable critique session.
DAY 7: Wednesday 29 March 2023
This morning we will travel to Richmond for a day of painting. Richmond is a beautiful old town with Georgian cottages of mellow sandstone standing in pretty cottage gardens. Ducks on the Coal River swim to and fro under Australia’s oldest bridge, built by convict labour between 1823/25. In late 2005, the Bridge was recognised as one of Australia’s outstanding historic places and added to the National Heritage List
DAY 8: Thursday 30 March, 2023
Today we travel to the riverside township of Franklin for a full day of painting. There is lots of old-fashioned Tasmanian charm, from the quaint historic buildings and streetscape to the pretty wooden boats floating on the Huon River. Located in the ultra-scenic Huon Valley, Franklin is the oldest township in the region and sits quietly on the western side of the beautiful Huon River.
DAY 9: Friday 31 March 2023
This morning we travel south to the coastal towns of Kettering, Cygnet and Huonville, located in the Huon Valley for a full day of painting and sightseeing.
DAY 10: Saturday 1 April 2023
This morning we will leave Hobart and travel on to Strahan. Strahan is a pretty little port on Macquarie’s Harbour and the only town on Tasmania’s forbidding West Coast. Originally a Huon pine timber milling town its growth was boosted by the copper boom at the Mt Lyell mine. When the Strahan Zeehan railway opened in 1892 it became a busy port. Today it handles freight to and from Queenstown and is used by crayfish, abalone and shark fishermen. This evening there will be an included dinner.
DAY 11: Sunday 2 April 2023
This morning we will cruise on the world-famous Gordon River. The ancient, mirror like waters of the Gordon River meander down from their source in the Central Highlands, through a breathtaking World Heritage river cape of temperate rainforest and mountain crag, to the mouth of Macquarie Harbour. You will see Hell’s Gate where the harbour opens to the Southern Ocean, Tasmania’s world-renowned salmon farms and you’ll visit notorious Sarah Island, the feared penal colony. We will enjoy and included lunch on our cruise. This will be a wonderful photo and sketching opportunity for you. This evening there will be an included dinner
