Nothing inspires me more than being out on location, capturing the subtle nuances of color, light and atmosphere that can only be achieved by painting from nature.” Debra is a signature member and President/CEO of the American Impressionist Society, a Master Signature member of Plein Air Artists Colorado, a Signature member of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and American Plains Artists and an elected member of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and the Salmagundi Club, New York. Her work has been featured in several national art publications: International Artist, June/July 2021, Art of the West, March 2018, American Art Collector, May 2010, Southwest Art and Plein Air Magazine (feature article, Oct/Nov. 2014). She was a finalist in Southwest Art Magazine’s 2012 Artistic Excellence competition. Debra was a faculty member for the 2014, 2015 and 2018 Plein Air Conventions and 2021 Plein Air Live. Her first instructional video, “Understanding the Effects of Light,”was released with Liliedahl Video in November 2020. She is represented by galleries in Utah, Colorado and her own gallery, Debra Joy Groesser Fine Art, Ralston NE.
DAY 1: Friday September 30, 2022 St George, Utah
Joining workshop members will be met at St George Airport at 3:00pm and transferred to
the workshop hotel in the magnificent St George. Below the rim of the Great Basin sits Utah’s
warm-weather retreat, the town of St. George. The stunning valley combines transitional
land features from the neighboring basin and Colorado Plateau with the landscapes and
wildlife of the Mojave Desert. Red rock mesas and lush waterways create the setting for
a fantastic painting destination. This evening the group will meet for welcome drinks and
included dinner to welcome joining workshop members.
DAY 2: Saturday October 1, 2022 St George, Utah
After breakfast Debra will begin the painting program with her first painting demonstration.
Then it will be your turn to paint as Debra moves among the group, helping each person
with their work. Critique sessions will be held at the workshop hotel each evening.
DAY 3: Sunday October 2, 2022 St George, Utah
A full day of painting in Zion National Park (subject to permission), a southwest Utah nature
preserve distinguished by Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs. Debra will hold a demonstration

DAY 4: Monday October 3, 2022 St George, Utah
After breakfast we will travel to paint the stunning scenery at Snow Canyon. There will be
many subjects to paint such as the towering sandstone cliffs colored red and white and the
jumble of black lava rock, which caps some ridges and tumbles down hillsides. Debra will
provide guidance to each tour member and paint a demonstration.
DAY 5: Tuesday October 4, 2022 St George, Utah

“It was so well organized. We got to see all the best places, but without feeling we were being herded around like cattle, like you do on some tours. There was plenty of time to paint, and the instructor told me more about how to improve my painting style in weeks than I have learned all year back home. I really did get individual attention.”
“I particularly enjoyed meeting people with similar interests and having a working reason for being in a location.”
