SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER – FRIDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2018

DAY 1: Sunday 2 September, 2018 Monterosso, Italy
Workshop members will be met at the NH Pisa Hotel at 12.30pm or Pisa airport at 1:00pm and transferred by private coach to Monterosso. Monterosso, is one of the villages that make up Cinque Terre (Five Lands). Cinque Terre is an isolated region with its rugged mountains covered wherever possible by terraced vineyards. A coastal path links all five villages where you will be able to enjoy and paint the dramatic views of the towns and coast. The Cinque Terre will surely offer workshop members an abundance of inspiration. Dinners are included each night during our stay.

DAY 2: Monday 3 September, 2018 Monterosso, Italy
This morning we will be met by a local guide, who will travel with the group explaining the history, sights and the local delicacies of the Cinque Terre region, which include pesto and anchovies. In the afternoon Chan will begin the painting program with a demonstration and individual teaching. This evening the group will have an included dinner. Valuable critique sessions will be held in the hotel every few days.

DAY 3: Tuesday 4 September, 2018 Monterosso, Italy
Today Chan will take workshop members to the village of Vernazza for a day of painting. Vernazza is the most attractive of the villages with its tall colourful houses and a promenade and piazza on the waterfront. There are countless superb subjects that will keep you painting all day. This evening the group will have an included dinner.

DAY 4: Wednesday 5 September, 2018 Monterosso, Italy
Painting, relaxation and sightseeing in Cinque Terre with Chan. Today you may like to walk the famous coastal path, which links the five villages. This evening the group will have an included dinner.

DAY 5: Thursday 6 September, 2018 Monterosso, Italy
Today we travel to Levanto. Levanto is the “Hidden Gem” on the Italian Riviera and the doorway to the Cinque Terre and has an interesting historical centre, many beautiful painted villas and a bustling Wednesday market. The main piazza, Piazza della Loggia, is a pretty square with a lovely 13th century medieval loggia. Chan will choose some great subjects for you to paint. This evening we will have an included dinner.

DAY 6: Friday 7 September, 2018 Monterosso, Italy
A full day of painting and enjoyment in the spectacular Cinque Terre under Chan’s helpful eye. A critique session will be held late in the afternoon. This evening the group will have an included dinner.

DAY 7: Saturday 8 September, 2018 San Gimignano, Italy
Today we say farewell to Monterosso and travel to Lucca for a short painting session. Its long history goes back to Etruscan and Ancient Roman times, and the city retains pieces of Ancient architecture. Lucca’s great era was in the Gothic era just before the Renaissance, and the city contains its marvellous architecture from that era. We then continue on to the picturesque village of San Gimignano, Tuscany. San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town in the province of Siena, Tuscany, north-central Italy. Known as the Town of Fine Towers, San Gimignano is famous for its medieval architecture, unique in the preservation of about a dozen of its tower houses, which, with its hilltop setting and encircling walls form “an unforgettable skyline”.

DAY 8: Sunday 9 September, 2018 San Gimignano, Italy
Today you will have the opportunity to paint in San Gimignano. The “Historic Centre of San Gimignano”, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town also is known for the white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, produced from the ancient variety of Vernaccia grape which is grown on the sandstone hillsides of the area. Chan will paint a demonstration and then assist workshop members with individual attention.

DAY 9: Monday 10 September, 2018 San Gimignano, Italy
Today workshop members will travel by private coach to one of the world’s greatest artistic capitals, Florence, for a sightseeing tour with a local guide. For three centuries the city was the cradle of exceptional artistic and intellectual activity, which later became known as the Renaissance. Florence was the home of Dante, Machiavelli, Michelangelo and is almost overwhelming in its wealth of art, culture and history. We will see the cathedral, with its enormous dome, the Baptistery, Santa Croce Church and famous Ponte Vecchio. The afternoon will be free for sketching, visiting museums, galleries and local sights.

DAY 10: Tuesday 11 September, 2018 San Gimignano, Italy
This morning we will travel through the Chianti countryside. Chianti offers a unique landscape, with green, gentle hills covered with wide fields of vineyards and olive groves, small stone villages, characteristic parishes and countryside homes in stone. We travel to the town of Volterra for a full day of painting. Chan will choose a location and paint a demonstration and then assist workshop members individually.

DAY 11: Wednesday 12 September, 2018 San Gimignano, Italy
Our final day of painting in San Gimignano. The town commands a panoramic view over the surrounding countryside. There is a fabulous town square, impressive church and interesting buildings, fine restaurants and inviting shops. There are many good subjects that will keep you painting all day. A final critique session will be held in the afternoon with farewell drinks, followed by our included farewell dinner.

DAY 12: Thursday 13 September, 2018 Departure
After breakfast workshop members will be transferred to Florence Airport to meet their mid afternoon flights.
