impressive Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French
art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings,
sculptures, furniture, and photography. It is
probably best known for its extensive collection of
impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces
(the largest in the world) by such painters such as
Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley,
Gauguin and Van Gogh. Greg will guide the group
through the museum then there will be free time to
explore the museum on your own.

DAY 7 Monday 29 May, 2023
Honfleur
Today we travel by coach to Giverny on the river
Seine where we will visit Claude Monet’s famous
garden and house. Monets house and gardens were
a source of inspiration and became his life’s work.
There he created in nature the motifs that became
his obsession transporting the water lilies, boats and
bridges of this garden onto his canvases. We will
then continue onto Honfluer. Honfleur’s beauty has
long attracted artists, with works of art to be found
in the town’s many museums and galleries. Honfleur
takes particular pride in its Impressionist roots –
Claude Monet’s mentor Eugène Boudin was born in
the town, and Monet and his contemporaries would
often set up their easels at the Ferme Saint-Siméon
on the hill above Honfleur, to capture the beautiful
light of the Seine estuary. This evening there will be
an included dinner.
