WORKSHOP
DAY 1: TUESDAY MAY 20, 2008 DUBROVNIK
Workshop members will be transferred from the airport to your comfortable centrally located hotel in Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is situated on a promontory surrounded by the beautiful waters of the Adriatic. It is renowned for its monuments, its magnificent walls and welcoming atmosphere. It was founded in the 7th-century by fugitives from the Roman city of Epidaurum. Its wealth was greatly influenced by the discovery of America and new trade routes. There will be time to freshen up before the group meets for welcome drinks and an included welcome dinner at the hotel.
DAY 2: WEDNESDAY MAY 21, 2008 DUBROVNIK
This morning we will join a local guide for a walking tour through Dubrovnik. We will see the impressive Fort of St John and the Sponza Palace, which was built in the 14th century as the mint for the city. We will visit Dubronik's Cathedral and Treasury built after the earthquake of 1667. The treasury is famous for its two hundred reliquaries. We will also see the Big Fountain of Onofrio, which stands in the square and dates from 1438. After lunch Charles will start the painting program with his first demonstration in a good location. Then it will be your turn to paint as Charles moves among the group, helping each person with their work. Relaxed critique sessions will be held at the workshop hotel every few days.
DAY 3: THURSDAY MAY 22, 2008 DUBROVNIK
Today we will travel by boat to the historic island of Lopud for a day of painting. On arrival Charles will paint a demonstration looking over the picturesque harbour in the village of Lopud. The group will be able to see the two forts, now in ruins, and the Franciscan monastery dating from the 15th-century.
DAY 4: FRIDAY MAY 23, 2008 DUBROVNIK
A full day of painting, sightseeing and relaxation in Dubrovnik with Charles Reid.
DAY 5: SATURDAY MAY 24, 2008 DUBROVNIK
After breakfast we will depart in our private coach to a scenic location in the area where Charles will demonstrate and then spend time moving amongst the group members offering individual assistance.
DAY 6: SUNDAY MAY 25, 2008 DUBROVNIK
Our last full day of painting in Dubrovnik. Charles will lead the group to a wonderful location for a day of painting on the coast. He will demonstrate and then move from person to person offering helpful advice.
DAY 7: MONDAY MAY 26, 2008 SPLIT
Today we travel along the spectacular Croatia coast to Split, our base for the next 6 nights. The old town of Split is full of charm, dominated by the Emperor Diocletians' vast Roman palace, one of the largest and best-preserved buildings remaining from the roman world. The classical composition of Split has been a source of inspiration to artists and architects throughout the world. With views over the Adriatic Sea and a backdrop of rugged mountains, the city will provide spectacular painting opportunities for workshop members.
DAY 8: TUESDAY MAY 27, 2008 SPLIT
This morning we will have a sightseeing tour of Split. We will visit the Roman palace and its many highlights including the Golden Gate, the main entrance to the palace, Peristyle, the interior courtyard of the palace and the Baptistry of St John. After lunch the painting program in Split will commence with a demonstration by Charles Reid followed by helpful individual teaching.
DAY 9: WEDNESDAY MAY 28, 2008 SPLIT
A full day of painting, sightseeing and relaxation with Charles Reid at Split.
DAY 10: THURSDAY MAY 29, 2008 SPLIT
This morning we will travel north to the town of Sibenik for a day of painting. Sibenik owes much of its beauty to the Venetians, who ruled the town between 1412 and 1797. It was a prosperous time, the arts flourished and Sibenik became one of the liveliest cultural centres in renaissance Croatia. The old town has grand building and three large forts and will provide plenty of subjects to paint.
DAY 11: FRIDAY MAY 30, 2008 SPLIT
Today Charles will take the group to a scenic location in Split and perform a demonstration and then spend time moving amongst the group members offering individual assistance.
DAY 12: SATURDAY MAY 31, 2008 SPLIT
Our last day will be a full day of painting at Split. Charles will take the group to a good location for a demonstration followed by individual attention for workshop members. A final critique session will be held before an included farewell dinner.
DAY 13: SUNDAY JUNE 1, 2008 DEPARTURE
Time to say farewell. After breakfast departing workshop members will be transferred to the Split airport to join afternoon flights. Workshop concludes.
