WORKSHOP

DAY 1: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 29, 2008 Cinque Terre
Workshop members will be met at Pisa airport at midday and transferred by private coach to the town of Monterosso, one of the villages that make up Cinque Terre (Five Lands). Cinque Terre is an isolated region with its rugged mountains covered wherever possible by terraced vineyards. A coastal path links all five villages where you will be able to enjoy and paint the dramatic views of the towns and coast. Cinque Terre will surely offer workshop members an abundance of inspiration. On arrival the group will get together for welcome drinks.

DAY 2: TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 Cinque Terre
This morning we will be met by a local guide, who will travel with the group explaining the history, sights and the local delicacies of the Cinque Terre region, which include pesto and anchovies. In the afternoon John Lovett will begin the painting program with a demonstration and individual teaching. Valuable critique sessions will be held in the hotel every few days.

DAY 3: WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 1, 2008 Cinque Terre
Today John will take workshop members to the village of Vernazza for a day of painting. Vernazza is the most attractive of the villages with its tall colourful houses and a promenade and piazza on the water. There are countless superb subjects that will keep you painting all day.

DAY 4: THURSDAY OCTOBER 2, 2008 Cinque Terre
This morning the group will visit the medieval village of Riomaggiore for a day of painting with John Lovett. The village is a spectacular jumble of houses slithering down a narrow valley with tiny fishing boats lining the shore. The Via dell' Amore (Lovers' Lane) starts in Riomaggiore and finishes in Manarola. In the afternoon you may like to walk the short distance to Manarola.

DAY 5: FRIDAY OCTOBER 3, 2008 Cinque Terre
Painting, relaxation and sightseeing in Cinque Terre with John Lovett. Today you may like to walk the famous coastal path, which links the five villages.

DAY 6: SATURDAY OCTOBER 4, 2008 Cinque Terre
Today is our last day of painting in Cinque Terre. John will paint a demonstration and then provide each workshop member with individual attention throughout the day.

DAY 7: SUNDAY OCTOBER 5, 2008 Massa Marittima, Tuscany
Today we say farewell to the beautiful villages of Cinque Terre and travel by private coach to the small hilltop village of Massa Marittima, located in the heart of Tuscany. The old medieval town stands in rolling countryside with a beautiful square lined by majestic medieval buildings. You will be itching to paint its many subjects. A delicious included full dinner will be taken each evening in Massa Marittima.

DAY 8: MONDAY OCTOBER 6, 2008 Massa Marittima, Tuscany
Today John will lead the group with a demonstration in the village. He then will help workshop members with their own paintings.

DAY 9: TUESDAY OCTOBER 7, 2008 Massa Marittima, Tuscany
After breakfast a private coach will take you to Siena, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Italy. A local guide will escort the group on an informative and enjoyable tour of the principal sights. Siena is built on three red clay hills (the origin of the color Burnt Sienna), and is surrounded by historic ramparts. Siena's medieval center bristles with majestic Gothic buildings including the Palazzo Pubblico in the Campo (the main square). The Campo is the center of the town's activity and is the venue for the world famous Palio horse race, held each year. Lunch will be taken at leisure and there will be time for you to sketch, shop and explore before returning to Massa Marittima.

DAY 10: WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 8, 2008 Massa Marittima, Tuscany
John will find a great painting location in this small ancient town in which the Town Hall, the Archeological Museum and the Picture Gallery all border the Town Square. He will show you how to tackle a good subject and will give you personal attention as you paint and sketch throughout the day. A critique session will be held late in the afternoon.

DAY 11: THURSDAY OCTOBER 9, 2008 Massa Marittima, Tuscany
There's a treat today when we take you through the rolling Tuscan countryside to the outstanding hill town of San Gimignano for a day of painting. The town commands a panoramic view over the surrounding countryside. There is a fabulous town square, impressive church and interesting buildings, fine restaurants and inviting shops. There are many good subjects that will keep you painting all day.
