WORKSHOP 1
Day 1: FRIDAY JUNE 6, 2008 Berlin, Germany
Workshop members will be met at Berlin airport at midday and transferred to the workshop hotel located in central Berlin. Berlin has more to offer visitors than almost any city in Europe. After more than 30 years of being divided the city is once again one of Europes most dynamic cities. Berlin is the heart of modern Germany, with a stoic beat that echo's through grand public buildings, glorious museums and theatres, urbane restaurants and bustling pubs. Since reunification in 1990 the city has thrived on change and has made a virtue out of reinventing itself. Tonight we will meet for an included welcome dinner at our workshop hotel.
Day 2: SATURDAY JUNE 7, 2008 Berlin, Germany
In the morning a local guide will take us on a tour of Berlin. We will visit such historical sights as the Brandenburg Gate, built in 1788 to celebrate the triumphant Prussian armies, Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz and Reichstag. Afterwards, Alvaro Castagnet will choose a painting location and begin the workshop with a demonstration. Alvaro will then help workshop members with their work throughout the day.
DAY 3: SUNDAY JUNE 8, 2008 Berlin, Germany
Alvaro will find a great painting location in Berlin and show you how to interpret it, then he will give personal attention to everyone as the group paints and sketches throughout the day. A constructive critique session will be held late afternoon.
DAY 4: MONDAY JUNE 9, 2008 Berlin, Germany
Our last day of painting in the wonderful city of Berlin. Alvaro will choose a location and begin with a demonstration and then help workshop members.
DAY 5: TUESDAY JUNE 10, 2008 Dresden, Germany
Today we will travel to Dresden, 'the Florence of the north'. Italian artists, musicians, actors and master craftsmen flocked to Dresden in the 18th century and created a city with a wealth of art and rich architecture. In 1945 much of Dresden was devastated in WWII raids, however a majority of the great baroque buildings have been restored to their former glory. With its numerous museums and many fine baroque palaces Dresden will provide many great subjects to paint.
DAY 6: WEDNESDAY JUNE 11, 2008 Dresden, Germany
This morning we will have a sightseeing tour of Dresden with a local guide. We will see the impressive architecture of the city including the Frauenkirche Church, Semper Opera House and the Royal Palace. Magnificent promenades on the bank of the Elbe, interesting museums and institutions, industrial monuments, charming details - Dresden has a lot for you to discover. In the afternoon Alvaro will start with a demonstration and then move between workshop members and assist them.
DAY 7: THURSDAY JUNE 12, 2008 Dresden, Germany
Today we will travel by coach to Meissen, a perfectly preserved old German town and the centre of a rich wine growing region. The town is also famous for its chinaware. Alvaro will find a good location in the old town and begins the days painting with a demonstration. We will return to Dresden in the afternoon.
DAY 8: FRIDAY JUNE 13, 2008 Dresden, Germany
Our final day in Dresden. Alvaro will lead the group to a good painting location and then assist workshop members with their individual work. There will be a final critique session late in the afternoon before an included farewell dinner.
DAY 9: SATURDAY JUNE 14, 2008 Departure
After breakfast a private coach will transfer those leaving the workshop to Dresden airport to join mid afternoon flights. Continuing workshop members will travel by private coach to Prague for Workshop 2.
WORKSHOP TWO
DAY 1 OR DAY 9: SATURDAY JUNE 14, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
Joining workshop members will be met at Prague airport at midday and transferred to the workshop hotel in the magnificent city of Prague, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Founded in the 9th century it reached its golden age during the reign of the Emperor Charles IV. It survived WWI and WWII relatively unscathed leaving beautiful buildings and squares almost frozen in time. This evening the group will meet for welcome drinks before dinner to welcome joining workshop members.
Day 2 or day 10: SUNDAY JUNE 15, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
This morning we will have a guided tour of the center of the old city. We will see the famous Charles bridge built by Emperor Charles IV, the old town square which is easily the most spectacular in Prague, the fascinating Jewish Quarter and more. This afternoon Alvaro Castagnet will give a demonstration, and then provide each workshop member with individual attention.
Day 3 or day 11: MONDAY JUNE 16, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
A full day of painting in Prague with Alvaro Castagnet. Alvaro will hold a demonstration and then provide each workshop member with individual attention.
Day 4 or day 12: TUESDAY JUNE 17, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
After breakfast we will travel by private coach to the town of Litomerice, north of Prague, for a day of painting. Litomerice is one of the oldest and most significant towns in Bohemia. The town will provide many interesting subjects to paint including the Town Square with its numerous examples of Renaissance architecture. Alvaro will provide guidance to each tour member. Late afternoon we will return to Prague.
Day 5 OR DAY 13: WEDNESDAY JUNE 18, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
A full day of painting in Prague with Alvaro Castagnet. Alvaro will paint a demonstration and then provide each workshop member with individual attention .
Day 6 OR DAY 14: THURSday JUNE 19, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
This morning we will depart by private coach to Prague Castle, the largest medieval castle in Europe. The castle is made up of a mix of architecture styles and will provide a wide range of painting subjects for the artist. Alvaro will demonstrate and then offer workshop members individual assistance.
Day 7 OR DAY 15: FRIDAY JUNE 20, 2008 Prague, Czech Republic
Our last full day of painting. Alvaro will demonstrate and then move from person to person offering helpful advice. A final critique session will be held before an included celebratory dinner to celebrate the success of the workshop.
DAY 8 OR DAY 16: SATURDAY JUNE 21 2008 Departure
Time to say farewell. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Prague airport for afternoon return flights. Workshop two concludes.
