Day 1 Thursday 17 November, 2011 Rottnest Island
Workshop members will be met at Perth domestic airport at 12.30 and transferred to Fremantle to take the short ferry ride to Rottnest Island. Rottnest Island, has a very casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery and some of the world's finest beaches and bays and is located just 19 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle. On arrival the group will get together for an included welcome drinks party and an included dinner.
Day 2 Friday 18 November, 2011 Rottnest Island
The unique history of Rottnest Island will captivate you. First records of human occupation of Rottnest Island are from more than 6,500 years ago when the Island was still attached to the mainland and Aboriginal people inhabited the area. Rottnest Island is also a haven for flora and fauna and home to many unusual animals and plants, particularly a small marsupial called the quokka. Malcolm will begin the workshop with his first demonstration in a picturesque location on Rottnest Island. He will then assist workshop members throughout the day. Regular critique sessions will be held throughout the tour. The group will enjoy another included dinner this evening at the hotel.
Day 3 Saturday 19 November, 2011 Fremantle
This morning we will take the short ferry trip back to Fremantle where we will stay for three nights. Fremantle is situated at the mouth of the Swan River and first settled in 1829. Fremantle boasts the best preserved example of 19th century port streetscape in the world with its world-famous heritage buildings and a fascinating maritime and convict history. Amble along the back streets past dockworkers' cottages and warehouses converted into trendy apartments. In the afternoon Malcolm will find a picturesque painting location in the town and paint a demonstration then assist workshop members individually.
Day 4 Sunday 20 November, 2011 Fremantle
A full day of painting in Fremantle. Malcolm will choose a good painting location and paint a demonstration and then assist group members. A critique session will be held in the afternoon.
Day 5 Monday 21 November, 2011 Fremantle
Today is our last day of painting in Fremantle. Malcolm will find a great location in town to paint a demonstration and offer tuition. In the afternoon you may like to visit the famous Fremantle Prison, which was once one of the most notorious prisons in the British Empire and is now on the World Heritage list.
Day 6 Tuesday 22 November, 2011 Margaret River
This morning we say farewell to Fremantle and travel south to Margaret River. Margaret River has evolved into the ultimate smorgasbord of fine wine, good food and spectacular scenery. Margaret River also has a thriving art scene, with lots of art and craft galleries.
Day 7 Wednesday 23 November, 2011 Margaret River
In the morning Malcolm will hold his first demonstration in Margaret River. In the afternoon Malcolm will provide individual help to workshop members.
Day 8 Thursday 24 November, 2011 Margaret River
This morning we will travel to Augusta and Cape Leeuwin, where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. The cape, the most south-westerly point in Australia has a rugged coastline and a lighthouse built in 1895. Malcolm will find a great painting location close to the lighthouse.
Day 9 Friday 25 November, 2011 Margaret River
This morning we travel to the Voyager Estate winery for a day of painting and an included lunch. The landscaped gardens surround architect, Geoffrey Summerhayes' Cape Dutch style cellar door building. The early houses in the Cape Town area were built in this architectural style.
Day 10 Saturday 26 November, 2011 Pemberton
This morning we drive through the picturesque southern forest area to Pemberton. Pemberton is a pretty timber town, located in the south west pocket of the state withbreathtaking forest scenery. The tall trees stretching skywards as far as the eye can see are awe-inspiring. And in spring the forest floor transforms with a burst of colourful wildflowers. On arrival in Pemberton we will head out to the Gloucester Tree towering sixty-one metres above the ground. Malcolm will paint a demonstration and then provide each workshop member individual attention. In the afternoon we will travel to our hotel nestled on the edge of Lake Beedelup and surrounded by majestic Karri forest. We will enjoy an included dinner at the hotel.
Day 11 Sunday 27 November, 2011 Pemberton
Today we will paint around the beautiful setting of the hotel in the Karri Valley. Malcolm will paint a demonstration and then provide each workshop member with individual attention throughout the day. There will be many subjects to paint including the seasonal wildflowers, the Karri forest and Lake Beedelup. The natural charm of the Karri Valley will provide the perfect setting for today's painting. This evening we have an included dinner.
Day 12 Monday 28 November, 2011 Pemberton
Our last full day of painting. This morning Malcolm will find a wonderful painting location and assist workshop members. This evening we have an included farewell dinner to say farewell to our new friends.
Day 13 Tuesday 29 November, 2011 Departure
After breakfast workshop members will be transferred to Perth airport for our return flight to our home states of Australia.
